March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and we’re highlighting colorectal cancer organizations. Roughly 147,950 people are expected to get a diagnosis of colorectal cancer this year , making it #3 on the list of most commonly diagnosed cancers . Of those, roughly 53,200 patients will likely die from the cancer . The survival rates for patients diagnosed with colorectal cancers have continued to get better, and today a patient diagnosed early (when the cancer is still localized) have a 90% five-year survival rate . However, there’s still much to be done to better educate people about screenings and to save more lives.
To help support colorectal cancer patients and to raise awareness of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we’ve selected two charities to support during this drive:
• Colorectal Cancer Alliance – They focus on supporting colorectal cancer patients in three ways: (1) emphasizing the importance of colorectal cancer screenings, (2) leading a patient empowerment team to help colorectal cancer patients, caregivers, survivors, and families, and (3) supporting research to find a cure. They also sponsor the Undy RunWalk® initiative, which has raised over $2,000,000 for colorectal cancer work.
• Colon Cancer Coalition –They’re known for the Get Your Rear in Gear® races that happen across the U.S. Their goal is to raise awareness of colorectal cancer signs and symptoms, increase screenings, and reduce the number of people who die from the disease.
Please join us in our goal to raise $2000 to support these charities in their amazing work.
